How to use
- Get a moving time from a watch, or from the pace, Naismith, or Tobler page.
- Enter the break percent you want to allow. Fifteen means breaks equal to 15 percent of the moving time.
- Press Calculate. The hero is total minutes. Break minutes are beside it.
- A fixed lunch that is not a percent of the day should be added after, in minutes, instead of being forced into the percent.
How it's calculated
Break minutes = moving minutes × percent ÷ 100. Total = moving minutes + break minutes.
A zero percent returns the moving time unchanged. The page does not add a hidden lunch.
Worked example
Two hundred forty moving minutes with a 15 percent break allowance is 36 minutes of breaks and 276 minutes door to door, which is 4 hours 36 minutes. At 10 percent the breaks are 24 minutes and the total is 264.
Assumptions
Breaks scale with moving time. A one-hour lunch on a short hike is a poor fit for a percent. Add that hour after the result. The percent is not medical advice and it is not a required rest.
FAQ
What percent should I use?
Whatever matches how you hike. The page will not pick one.
Does Tobler include breaks?
No. Tobler is a walking speed. Add breaks here if you want them on top.
Can I enter hours?
Convert to minutes first. Two and a half hours is 150 minutes.
Is this the turnaround page?
No. Turnaround uses a pace, a sunset, and a buffer. This page only lengthens a moving time you already have.
